Yarn Review! Red Heart Its a Wrap AND Its a Wrap Rainbow

Hi guys! Nice to see you all and I hope you are doing well. Guess what!

I did a yarn review on Red Hearts new yarn cakes "Its a Wrap" and "Its a Wrap Rainbow"

Both are very pretty. Let's discuss the differences really quick.

Its A Wrap

"Its a Wrap" has super cute movie-related names and a nice strong contrast between the three colors in each cake. No gradient at all. It is bold, clean and modern. In store, you will find it in the crochet thread area of your local Michaels. There are 7 beautiful colorways!  and they are running $9.99 in store and at RedHeart.com. Its a bit less if you use this link and buy it at Amazon

...............

It's A Wrap Rainbow

"It's a Wrap Rainbow" is a polar opposite. Colors are bright and tropical. It romantically melts one color into the next. The yarn is made of 4 untwisted stands and the colors change by altering the color of each strand independently. This is a bit more work because you need to put in the effort to be certain that you pull up all 4 of these strands each time you pull up a loop. But the effect is nearly "optical illusion" addictive and I cannot get enough. It's lovely and the fabric you create is so light and perfect for the summertime. I have a few of the pricier cakes of this type from Etsy and I share a comparison in the video review above. (Watch Here!

The Price is 11.99 at Joann's or on RedHeart.com or you can purchase here on Amazon

Thanks for visiting with me. If you have any questions or a request for a yarn that you would like to see reviewed please let me know in the comments! Take care!

Crochet Gauge and a Vanna's Choice Review

Hello! Today we are crocheting a swatch. I do this with all new yarns to see how they behave. I will be using Lion Brand Vanna Solid in Aqua and a J Hook. It's a great way to see what hook you want to use, how a yarn washes up, and a way to compare it to other yarns that you have also swatched. I find it very relaxing, too. So grab a hook and some yarn and let's have fun!

If you are swatching:

sock or fingering weight yarn use a D hook
dk or sport weight yarn use a F hook
worsted or aran use a J hook
super bulky would need a N hook and perhaps cute the stitches in half.

So...about the Lion Brand Vanna's Choice. I feel silly even reviewing this yarn. It feels like such a standard yarn. It is really what I gauge other yarns against. But, in the name of science I will move on with this!

I hope that you enjoy. :) Please like and subscribe.

Review! Loops & Threads Joy DK

Hi friends! I reviewed a new yarn today!

The yarn is Loops & Threads Joy DK!

The Facts!

The weight is a Size 3/Light.
It is machine washable and low heat dryable.
They suggest an H hook but I swatched with an F hook as I always do with DK and sport weight yarns.

Long story short!

Personally, I like the yarn.

It is a bit stretchy so I had to go up one hook size for my chain then went down to the F hook for the rest of my stitches. Otherwise, it would pucker a bit at the base. After going up the hook size it was just right.

The finish is shiny and super soft. It is not splitty. I split the yarn two times but it left no wounds and that is really good since I used a hook two sizes smaller than suggested. There is a slight squeak factor but I had no issue. If you do I would suggest a wooden or brush nickel finished hook like these.

The packaging was super cute and very convenient to work with. It came in a ball! I have never gotten yarn in a ball. I love it!

I went ahead and made a video discussing it in depth...come see if you are interested.

Is there anything else you would like to know about this yarn? Feel free to ask!

Review: Perfect Food Raw Drink Mix

Today I was at Sprouts and found a chocolate flavored greens drink mix...Raw even! Had to try it. I like chocolate a little bit. :)

It is Garden of Life brand Perfect Food Raw Oraganic Green Superfood in Chocolate!

I was really excited that I didn't have to buy an entire canister just to test it. I just bought one packet.

I mixed it with a cup of water and lots of ice. The taste was not so bad. The smell bugged me. But a straw took care of that. I do not think I would add this to my morning smoothie. But, it is MUCH preferable over my plain flavored greens drink.

And pretty, too! LOL

I would like to note that when I drink a green superfood shake in the afternoon I do not crave my 3 o'clock coffee. It gets me through my evening rush beautifully without the urge to snack while I am making dinner. Which makes the ugliest muck look beautiful to me!

Take care,
Mel

Nectresse Review

It might seem unrelated...but without coffee there would be no crochet for me. I have had to pull many a crochet-all-nighter to figure some patterns out and fill orders at the holidays. So, a new artificial sweetener...totally craft related!

I was at Target last night and saw this box near the bags of sugar (my teenager requested it...he is big on tea and baking). I had to try it!

The price: not so great. 40 packets for $3.99
The taste: DARN good. It has a sliiiight "truvia" bite to it but much less aftertaste. And the aftertaste is kind of nice, mellow. My coffee is not bitter. Just *sips* sweet.

In defense of the price...its brand new. I guess it was announced earlier this year and just released last week in July. AND it only took one packet to sweeten my coffee. It usually takes two packets of anything else. So I would suggest you give it a try!

Review: Bernat Alpaca Natural Blends

Ravelers...please go HERE for the post with the pattern. I messed up and pasted the link to this review where I should have posted the link to the pattern and I cannot seem to fix it. :)

Well...let me just start by saying, "I love my set of fingerless gloves. But."

I tried Bernats Alpaca Natural Blends yarn. This was an impulse buy and my first time using this yarn. I went with "stone"...a very dark, shiny charcoal gray. Not metallic shiny...it has a sheen to it, as you can see above. It is 70% acrylic and 30% alpaca. It is a nice bulky weight. I paid $6 for my skein.

It is soft. Not as soft as Hooks and Loops Charisma or Lions Homespun, though. If I had it to do over again I would use Charisma. It is the same bulky weight and almost always on sale. So, it would be half the price and a little softer.

All softness aside, there is one reason I am complaining about the alpaca. It sheds EVERYWHERE as I crochet. I have a black cat that lives outdoors (her name is Ninjette, she is AWESOME)...but I kept thinking that she had snuck inside the house. Black hairs were EVERYWHERE. And the hairs that manage to stay on the yarn get very tangled on the hook. It caused the yarn to get very piece-y and separate as I worked. Not a pleasure.

But the end result was the desired one. It was just a hassle getting there. I would give the yarn 2** out of 5*****.

Thanks for reading! Happy hooking <3
